Hipocrasy on the high seas.

This is funny. A bunch of British marines were arrested the other day by Iranian forces who believe they boated into Iranian waters. Basically, a bunch of invaders stray over a border and get arrested for trespassing. Ha! It seems cooler heads are starting to prevail, and Iran is already talking about how to rectify the situation. What's funny is how the news media immeadiately leapt to the conclusion that the Brits hadn't gone over the border, when a) no one seems sure exactly where the border is, and b) no story I saw even tried to pinpoint where the Brits had been before they were picked up. The dead won't stay quiet

A while ago a study in the Lancet Medical Journal estimated that 655,000 Iraqis had been killed in the Iraq war. British and American authorities were very quick to dismiss the figure as preposterous, and the reaction to the number has been muted. Now papers obtained by the BBC World Service have shown that British senior officials were warned that "the methods used in the survey were 'robust' and 'close to best practice'". It seems pretty obvious this is the
best prediction of casualties in the war, and the perpetrators of it are desperately trying to draw a veil over it.



Glory

A while ago I heard through the grapevine (made with real grapes) that Shell were making an ad, in partnership with the Ferrari F1 team and factory, that would feature F1 cars from various eras being driven through various cities. Well the rumour was true, and the ad has been leaked to good old youtube. So tighten up your belts and revel in true mechanical glory here.



Film review: Hot Fuzz

The makers of Shaun of the Dead take on another genre with their salute to every cop movie ever made. Ever. It is funny, particularly the last 30 minutes, but it almost has a sense of too much satire about it, so that you're not sure if something is meant to be a simple parody, or is actually genuine. They shake the camera around too much for my liking as well. It's a good, odd film, with a very rich cast. Three mini houses out of five.
